  1. “real editing software” noob. i recently got passed my changing file names mistake.... i have an issue where i think when i drag new clips to my time line and/or a sound track i notice i lose some stuff. am i doing something wrong amongst my multiple layers? to be specific, I Alt+A to move my starting point back to build an intro. Then i begin adding tons of new clips and sounds to the layers at the start of the timeline. i noticed a few times the intro was bleeding into the start of the footage (which means at some point it was there) finally done with the intro, i play it from the start to see it live and then i notice the first bit of footage is missing the original first bit. (this also happened in another later spot of the timeline) i have to possibly RE edit a good amount of stuff. how can recover and/or AVOID doing what i’m doing incorrectly? sorry for the read friends just need to be specific to avoid confusion.
  2. First of all, I have to say it's a pleasure to be part of this community. And now, my first question in this forum. Can anybody explain why an invert Curve doesn't accurately invert the image and why getting down the luma curve to 0 shows some kind of signal? See images attached
  3. Would love a in deep tutorial on how to track correctly paint nodes in Fusion I need to clone out parts of a clip in motion and dont know how to solve it in Fusion In Mocha Pro I can do a plate track it and done but in Fusion everything is so complicated an unintuitive that I get stuck Its really frustrating how Fusion is so unfriendly to sporadic users I love all the other sections of Resolve but Fusion is a headache. It would be helpful if Lowepost can create some tutorials with different scenarios on how to track and clone out objects in Fusion Youtube videos have lead me to a dead end so far.
  4. Hi, If this questions was posted in the past I would appreciate a link to it. I have many cuts on the timeline with different angles and keyframes and all the files comes basically from the same original clip. Now, I want to take a certain cut from the timeline, and replace the same time and location of that cut, with the same time and place from the original clip. So ideally, I could take the entire original clip, drop it on the space in the timeline, where I want to remove a certain cut, and the system will recognize the in/out in the timeline and replace the removed clip with the exact section in time from the original clip. Is this possible? I appreciate your response and have a great day -iLan
  5. One of the clips on my timeline are marked "media offline". Strangely, when I play through the clips in the edit room it's there despite of that the thumb says that it's offline. I can play the clip in the color room too, but sometimes (not always) the screen flash media offline. Any idea what is going on? It's not a timecode / clip conflict as I don't have any options or opportunity to right click and change the source clip.
  6. Using the latest Davinci Resolve 15 Free software on my PC. I opened a previously saved timeline for a wedding video highlights. I hoped to open it to make a few minor adjustments before I do one last render. All of the clips said Media Offline. All clips are red. I haven't done anything different. All of the original video clips are still in the same place unmoved, untouched and working fine. I have lots of storage too. I tried to clear the cached render but still no changes as suggested in a forum topic similar to my issue. It still shows No Media errors in all editing rooms - fairlight, color, etc. It won't play anything when I try to scrub or play. Any suggestions? I'm really disappointed in all the issues I've had to waste a lot of time troubleshooting in this program. I don't have a lot of time to spare with editing deadlines to meet. Please help. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hey everybody, I've been running into issues with Resolve crashing when I choose the dual monitor setup while in the color page. Looks like an issue that has been going on with many people. https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=84420 https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?t=51910 https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?t=66034&p=372500 Has anyone had seen this or know of any fixes? People seem to submit logs and then never get a response. It's a new system build, fresh install, fresh everything with latest drivers of everything. -Windows 10 Home 64bit, 64GB RAM - Latest NVidia Drivers (Tried both Creator and Gaming drivers as well as re-installed drivers multiple times) - Resolve 15.3.1 Studio (fresh install and have tried re-installing multiple times). - 2x 1440p Dell GUI monitors (same models and resolution) each connected via display port to the GPU The "workaround" I have been able to achieve is by starting in single monitor, setting display 2 as the primary, then choosing dual screen, then switching back to display 1 as primary. This works fine but either has to be re-applied every time I enter a project or if the dual screen setup stays saved I cannot open a project with both monitors plugged in or it crashes. This is not acceptable at all. If anyone has seen this or figured out a resolution it would be great to hear! Attaching a video screen capture of the problem. Will also try and work with tech support to see of they have any answers but thought I would chat with you all as well. Crash_DualScreen_ColorPage2.mp4
  8. Hi! Do you guys use the Tint/Temp controls in white balancing or LGG for the most of it? Is there a backlash in using Tint/Temp controls? Thanks!
  9. I am grading a feature (Indie) that was shot on the A7Sii, XAVC S S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3 1600 ISO High Profile 4:2:0 94-100Mbps UHD The issue- There is a visible pattern in the footage, can bee seen in about 50 shots so far, and can still be seen in the ungraded Log mode as well. The red one is an image I found online with the pattern, but no explanation as to what it is/and if it can be fixed some how. Anybody ever see this before? Is the footage screwed? I am grading in Resolve Studio 14 underneath a 2383 Film Emulation Lut (built in) Thank you!

  11. Hi guys! This is a compilation of my works from August 2016 - 2017. I've been working as a colorist for almost 2 years now, I would love to know your thoughts about my reel. Thanks! Have a great year everybody!
  12. This seems like a basic question but wanted to get some insight on it. It is all about setting a proper balance dealing with log type footage. When using a film emulation LUT to expand contrast and implement a color "look", the image is going to have some type of color bias built into the math of the LUT. How are you suppose to "balance your shot" when using a LUT like this? I understand that you want to balance your shot to correct for any white balance issues but how are you suppose to achieve this with a film emulation LUT? Do you expand the contrast manually, add another node and apply balance, then reset the contrast node and apply the film emulation LUT? I hope this makes sense. thanks so much for your help.
  13. Do you have any guide on how to export EDLs or XMLs from Premiere Pro CC to Davinci Resolve? I guess that XML can transfer more data than an EDL, so that is what I should use?

  15. Hi guys, this is my first time in this forum. I have a workflow question about sony A7s with Resolve. I’ll be doing 10 webisodes color correction/grading. I will receive all the 10 episodes at once and I have 3 weeks to do it. Shot in 4K with Sony A7S. The footage is XAVC (I’ve never worked with this footage before). Normally I work with Raw RD3, Raw DNG files or ProRess. Destination is internet but they want to have it corrected for TV too just in case as the webisodes are for a broadcaster website. I’ll ask the editor for XMLs of each episode and footage. Romantic Drama. There are some digital speed ramps in the footage so I’ll ask for the footage without the speed ramp because it doesn’t read in the XML. I’ll ask for FX (if there’s FX) to be render prep and done. Question 1… Do I open one new project for each episode or within the same project, I’ll have timeline 1 (episode one), then import XML 2 – Timeline 2 (episode 2) etc,. I’ll save stills to apply same look to the other episodes. Of course, I must do shot matching first. 2- Broadcaster specs… I’ll send back everything to the editor so he can do the final online with sound. If the footage is 8bit, do I work in 10 bit in resolve? Because the broadcaster wants Bit rate: 10 bits I’m planning to give the editor back ProRess 422 then he can compress it for broadcaster right? 3. Still I didn’t speak with the editor yet so I’m not sure if the footage is Slog 2. Any recommendation with this codec? 4 Project settings: Finally, in the project settings/color management… what type timeline color space do you recommend for this. Thanks guys and sorry for all the dumb questions. Thanks Gabe Broadcaster specs below 4k UDH XAVC Wrapper: MXF Format profile: PO- 1a Video format: AVC Video codec: H.264 Video profile: XAVC 4k -intra Video compression Method: VBR not CBG Bit rate 200= Mb Bit rate Depth: 10 bits
