  1. This is really not much of an issue anymore. The motion graphs in both apps will match if the conform is done properly. The AAF generator in Avid is rock solid and handles complex motion retiming very well. Remember, each software has its own motion algorithms so an 100% exact match is not possible but controlling the frame interpolation as mentioned above certainly helps.
  2. This is probably the coolest colorist course I have seen, it felt like I was sitting on a chair next to him in the color suite! Well done Lowepost, you deliver unbetable content over and over again.
  3. Looks like question I should have googled, and I have... I use the Avid subcap and plan to import the text file (*srt), but for some reason I'm completely lost when it comes to navigation on Mac. This is how it looks: Computer / Applications Library System Users MyName Applications Desktop Documents +++ Where should I go to find my two connected hard drives? Think I've been through every folder without finding them. Never had this issue with Avid before but now I'm on a Mac...
  4. I need to position text very accurately, are there any rulers in DaVinci Resolve? I know I can use OFX grid, but it's not a good tool for positioning graphic elements relative to other elements elements.
  5. Is it possible to get the background box of the subtitles to adapt to the width and hight of the text in DaVinci Resolve? I'm using DaVinci Resolve for finishing and si far I'have been doing the subcap work in Avid and it's very time consuming. Sometimes I can use stroke around the text, but I can't always do that.
  6. Just bought a MAC with a Mac mouse... . How do I zoom the viewer and reposition the frame in DaVinci Resolve? Tried to click and drag but it just zooms in and out...in and out.
  7. These days I'm working from home so I don't have any speakers attached to the Decklink. So, I'm getting video signal out on my grading monitor but no audio. Do you know if it's a "button" in Resolve that lets me continue to get the video signal out but at the same time listen to the internal Mac speakers? I usually don't need audio when grading, but sometimes when finishing I need to check the sound mix and see that things are synced. I know I can bypass video in the video and audio I/O preferences to get internal audio, but that will break the video signal. In Avid, I can click a button near the timeline that let me switch between the desktop audio and deckling audio and it doesn't break the video signal.
  8. Looks like Flame 2020 got some new cool color tools! Would try it out if it wasn't for the crazy pricing.
  9. Great! Do they come with different graphic cards? What's in yours?
  10. BTW I'm asking because I don't want to jump on the new 10.000USD iMac, hope I can get things done at home with one of the cheaper ones.
  11. I need to buy an iMac to run DaVinci Resolve from home. What version should I go for? I have the new Mac Pro at my office and understand that there are limitations with the iMac but I don't have clients sitting next to me at home and doesn't need the same performance. What I need though is a Mac with as good performance as possible. I mainly work with footage from the ARRI camera. I also need to know that I can output the montor signal to my external grade monitor. I usually have a Decklink 4K Extreme for this but I guess the iMac doesn't have space for external cards.
  12. Those are two really great courses and the basics are all covered very well, but I agree they aren't very easy to find. Maybe create a flight path or organize the Fusion courses in its own category? It's easy to get lost when the library is growing.
  13. In video monitoring the data levels should be set to "video". In the render settings, 99% of the times it should be set to automatically which means video levels in most cases. That is what most applications expects even though they might remap to data levels internally. You can find the same frame rate without psF (Progressive segmented Frame) which probably is the one you should use. Keep to the default settings. Whatever you prefer, whatever you do to your image will override these settings anyways. In general, I advice you to stay with the default settings and focus more on the creative things. Again, do not touch this. It should be set to Auto and the clip will be interpreted the way it should.
  14. Thanks! Do I need to bring it in with a loader? It´s the footage so it would make sense to simply pipe from the same MediaIn1 source?
  15. It's a professional course, they're not saying it's an advanced course even though there is some advanced techniques in there too. In my opinion it's exceptionally good. To be honest, I'm a bit tired of hearing people chasing 'advanced courses', it's not about finding the most complicated techniques and node structures. It's about teaching simple methods and workflows that is used every day by professional colorists (much like you say) and that's where I see Lowepost deliver gold compared to most of the others. Remember, it' been made tons of blockbusters and thousands of creative looks with the three main color channels and brightness controls, how much more do you really need to become a good colorist? Understanding the fundamentals and the basics of color theory will really get you a long way fast. I think I've been going through all the main beginner courses that are available and they tend to jump very early into all the new and fancy tools and secondaries, probably because they know new users like to fiddle around with them. They are also very version specific, meaning most of the time is used on the new tools and not so much on the craft itself. I also agree with you that the colorist stories are very good and I tend to go back and read now and then and I always pick up new things.
  16. I want to use a BSpline to cut out a part of the image, freeze it and track it on top of the same image. How can that be done? The idea is to do a paint job on the image, and then composite parts of the original image back on top. The image moved so I need to freeze and track it.
  17. Is someone using Avid successfully with Catalina on the new Mac Pro? I know it's not supported.
  18. I'm on a project now with low brightness and desaturated colors. A few elements are extremely brightness, neon-ish and I need to fit them into the overall color palette. Any tips on how to deal these overly bright colors? I'm not a newbie and have brought down the luma and worked with hue shifts and desats but they are extremely hard to control.
  19. Thanks Bruno! What if I want to keep it 50fps, but edit in a 25fps project? I normally transcode in Resolve, copy the transcoded files into the Avid media folder and drag the database files into the bin. I can do it the same way?
  20. The DOP shot clips in 50fps (slow) but the edit will be done in 25fps with most of the clips in 25fps. 1. How can I change the rate to 25fps pr clip (not on timeline)? Because I want to edit directly from bin and have it all in 25fps. 2. How do we match audio on set in this case? Recorded on an external device.
  21. This is by far the best color grading course I have ever seen and these techniques has already changed both the way I think about approaching images and how I work. I realized that the compression techniques does the magic that I have seen in high-end work, and it was a big eye opener to me how the colors find its place in the tonal range of the image by building nodes this way. I can't thank you guys enough for this course.
  22. I have a few DV cam tapes that I need to capture. The output is DV (FireWire 4 pin) but I don't have access to a FireWire card in my machine. Any idea how I can capture it? FireWire to USB adapter doesn't exist because it can't transfer the video signal all the way through.
  23. How would you go that in Resolve? Hue Vs hue with a garbage mask? You can do the same thing in Baselight. Even combine it with vector brightness for deeper colors.
  24. It behaves totally different when you drag the line down, try for yourself.
