  1. I have some Nucoda plans set up now and time will tell how it will go.
  2. I do not have as much experience probably on other platforms but i would say any tool gets you there. Mostly comments i see about Resolve clearly reflect people using it wrong or are mis informed.

    Xeon vs i7

    More cores and less speed?
  4. Media pool / select all clips / clip properties / pixel aspect ratio / scope (in case of 2x anamorphic)
  5. It really in the end will boil dow what workflow you have and how fast you can make your grade and with what results. Coolness is not important property of a tool very long time now imo as any color app or nle is used on blockbusters around the globe. Mostly they are selected by studio job is done or by artist. Some go with Nucoda, some still use Scratch. I bet being confident on number of apps is good idea.

Sopermicro seems to be listed as per spec machine on Linux Resolve guide.

I'm thinking of Supermicro X10DRG-Q with dual Intel Xeon E5-2687W V4. More i read more sense it makes.

Price difference is not that big just 2x Lets say 7 k for i7 setup and 15 k on xeon. My only concern is expandability and working on Linux Resolve. Sure cost is somewhat and issue but to a degree. Then again maybe i'm thinking it over to much.

On Xeon 4 gpu's is not a problem in any way and still have raid and DeckLink and such. On i7 i hear it is mostly 2 gpu's and then other things.

    Xeon vs i7

I wonder how others feel about Resolve station on Xeon vs i7? I think of going pc for more power but have not decided yet finally. Xeon is better in some tasks but i7 seems more cost effective. As i plan to do other things also on the same machine like Fusion and some 3d plus DCP encoding then core count is also important i7 10c vs dual xeon 24 cores.
  12. I use both on the same time mouse panel and keyboard. Really depends how you are comfortable.
  13. How do you setup your machine i started wondering. 20 drives need some big raid card and such. It just got me thinking maybe building Supermicro in to this case and have drives also in the same case. Care to share your build details ?
  14. Imo for serious work laptop is not suitable. Ok for email and some occasional travel usage if really needed but other than that they are weak imo.
  15. Point is that you can get REC709 perfectly calibrated on reasonable price and work like this and then later when doing DCP converting it perfectly you get accurate results comparing with cheap monitor not doing accurate P3. You could work on P3 with projection but i would say you need to buy "cheap" projection starting from 20 to 30 thousand € or USD. Not very feasible for many so REC 709 workflow is used. If you have budget for good projection calibration and such then sure go P3 if not then good monitor like FSI is my suggestion. I do all my features on 709 displays and it is perfect in cinema.
  16. Could you give more detailed system description ?
  17. It was in some forum but i do not have the link any more. Basically it was distortion and noise in black shadow areas.
  18. Client: Eesti Energia Director: Helen Takkin Producer: Kadi Freja Felt Cinematographer: Meelis Veeremets Editor: Johannes Arro Color Grade: Margus Voll, C.S.I.
  19. You are forgetting something more important, what is the system that helps you complete your task faster and makes you better income.
  20. Those LG unit have issues in blacks some users report.
  21. Sony monitors calibration is somewhat limited and does not make it super exiting as we can not expect ultimate precision. Expencive yes but we want more control and precision at least it seems so to me at that price range.
  22. Maybe we should ask why not then ? For my workflow it just suits good given that we have fusion now on board and raw editing is also nice option.
  23. I went over as it was at that time still Hi end system and it was real time. Real time was most important thing for me. No rendering and instant feedback. Somehow i landed first Mac beta before it did come out on osx. At that time i had slow machine but i could work like that. Then i was doing it old school (film type grading) with primaries and offsets. Now going to it with lgg directly is more in fashion. By time i got better machine and finally got the speed i was after. This is what went in and did come out if you care to see: Before that we used to have Apple Color here but it was slow and painful to work with always rendering and playing it back then and re adjusting. I got better results faster even on super slow imac so it was no brainer to switch. Now i'm looking to educate myself on different platforms as you have done. This is my story short why i went with Resolve.
  24. I have found that working on 80 CD and dimming scopes and computer UI help a lot in dark environment. Sometimes 120 CD seems like burning sun after very long session.
