Guest July 7, 2017 Share July 7, 2017 Hi, client gives me ProRes 422 and DaVinci Resolve doesn't export ProRes. What is the best workflow for me to achieve quality results such that the editor is able to put the graded shots back in their NLE (FCP).
Abby Bader July 7, 2017 Share July 7, 2017 Windows and Linux outputs DNxHD with identical (if not better) quality rendering as ProRes. DNxHD OP ATOM can be read natively in Avid and that makes the workflow a breeze.
Cary Knoop July 7, 2017 Share July 7, 2017 (edited) DNxHx should work fine but I would make sure you test if the levels and gamma are correctly interpreted at all stages in your workflow. Edited July 7, 2017 by Cary Knoop Typo
Abby Bader July 7, 2017 Share July 7, 2017 Auto levels on a DNxHD render will be read natively as 16-235 in Avid and 16-235 will be monitored as full range by default out of Avid. That means you will see the same in both programs. I'm not sure how this works in Premiere because of that the timeline is set up in RGB (1-255), the opposite of Avid. If it reads the DNxHD renders as full range you will be fine. Do a quick test with the different output level options.

Strangely I did render it in DNxHD444 but I am getting feedback that Final Cut Pro has trouble recognizing it so I am assuming there's an issue with the codec on that NLE, either that or the editor is doing something wrong. Abby Bader July 8, 2017 Share July 8, 2017 (edited) Unfortunately, I don't know how FCP handles any format but I'm sure @Ildus gabidullin got a tutorial for that as well :-D Edited July 8, 2017 by Abby Bader
