  1. Thank you! What is the name of the slider that actually clips the black and not softens the blacks?
  2. What is the best way to clip the blacks without bring them below 0 IRE?
  3. Can you tell me what is the best way to create a dup tone image?
  4. Ok, thanks. I usuallty just want to retain the contrast that comes with the LUT and throw away the rest.
  5. I would like a print emulation LUT with all the film characteristics without the color consequences, is that possible? The reason is that I want a clean balanced base correction but have the rich contrast from the LUT.
  6. Can someone explain the difference between the Color Space Transform OFX plugin and a Alexa LUT in these examples when the footage is Alexa. 1. LogC, target = Rec709. 2. Rec709, target = Alexa LogC. Is the color space transform less destructive, is it bases on a formula like theTruelight Video 1 inverse DRT? Why use the Alexa LUT at all to inverse back from log to Rec709?
  7. Hi Jim, thank you for this introduction to color timing. Is it possible to affect only lift, gamma, or gain with printer points?

    FILM COLOR TIMING

Hi Jim, thank you for this introduction to color timing. Is it possible to affect only lift, gamma, or gain with printer points?
  9. Is possible to build a LUT that is based on the print data only, not both print and negative?
  10. How can I block blue and remap red and green?
  11. I will try LAB colorspace as suggested, as it seems like the chroma is affected with both lgg luminance only adustments and y curve. Most times this will not be a problem, but I need total isolation for a particular project I'm working on.
  12. Thank you. How is the y only curve different than the lift gamma gain individual luma only controls when it comes to saturation?
  13. How can I adjust the luma without increasting saturation/changing chroma? Thought I could use the luminance lift/gamma/gain only for this, but it looks like it affects the chroma as well.
  14. Ah... thanks! When I tried to figure this out I raised the R,G and B-channels on the LIFT primary, and what I saw was that this actually lowered the saturation. But when raising one of them only, lets say the Red, in did the opposite - added more Red. Can someone explain why it is behaving this way?
  15. I used the term global saturation that saturates the whole image, but I can't find controls that affect lift-only, gamma-only and gain-only. Does that exist?
  16. Is it possible to desaturate an image not only globally, but in lift, gamma and gain? In Davinci Resolve?
  17. Can DR be set to Ipp2 like a color spavece or does this require any processing prior to the conform in a grading app?
  18. I feel that I can see if I'm looking at a feature or a drama series simply by judging the look, even though the drama could be a high profile show. Am I the only one, or are there some differences that might distinguish the way the images are treated that makes a feature look like a feature and a drama look like a drama?
  19. This gave me more than I hoped for, I will experiment with the different methods and post the result (if I'm allowed).
  20. Do you have any advice for how to distort or degrade the image in Davinci Resolve? I hope to be able to add a print like texture and add a retro / vintage feel without going into online. I'm covered on the color part.
  21. Interesting. Haven't thought of Italy's culture very different from other west european countries in particular. Any reason why you mention Italy? When it comes to image trends, the culture from that area stood strong and influenced the global market through their dominant art and fashion expression.
  22. In one of our suites we got two computer screens connected to a graphic card through display ports. The screens are set up to regular HD (1920x1080) and that worked fine until I unplugged one of the screens and connected a high resolution screen to one of the ports. That probably caused the Windows display resolution to increase automatically, so when I plugged in the original screen again both the screens went black. They are working properly until I enter Windows. I tried to enter safe mode, but it doesn't let me change the display resolution as it 'disconnects' the graphic card. Any idea how to deal with this?
