Thank you! I didn't realize that checking the monochrome button gives you access to the color information behind the non-color representation of the image.

I have checked preserve luminance and monochrome but when I move the slider in the RGB mixer, it doesn't have any affect on the images. This is confimed by the scopes. It's probably a small thing that I've been missing?

I have imported some R3D clips (probably from a newer RED camera) into DaVinci 12.5 but the media is offline. Do I need a later version than 12.5 to read these files?

Make a skin key selection, bump the highlights and add some blur. It will get you there without using blending modes.

Is the Trulight standalone tool ment to be used to manage color on other color correction platforms, or as a tool to ensure a consistent color pipeline across departments, studios and systems? -
One of the reasons film looks better to the eye is because it naturally records fine details without heightening the contrast. Hard contrast adjustments on digital images will make up for the lack of detail, but at the same time give a false sense of sharpness. Understanding this is important to create the best looking images possible. Paul Ensby is the master of reproducing film characteristic curves and that is probably one of the reasons that his work is loved by so many.

Hi Abby. The look of The Grand Budapest Hotel was based on old photochrome images from the early 1900s. Their references were the photochrome library from the Library of Congress.

Another huge + is that it's supported natively in Avid meaning your editors doesn't need to important and transcode the files to do any changes. This format also whispers a long goodbye to the Apple format that we all love so much...

I think that they have a really great development team and could take some shares from the other editing systems in the long run. I support the thought of including some editing features and compositing tools inside the color app but Avid is really solid and know their market really well.

Hey! I'm looking for a player that can read R3D files with the burned in timecode without any lag. Any suggestions? RedCine is not an alternative because on my system it's too slow and can't playback in realtime.

It was quite interesting to read @Julien Alary 's thoughts about color match and what he discovered when rewinding "Louder than bombs". Some trailers got some serious color mismatch because the edit was done after the color team on the main movie was sent home, on another project or unavailable for whatever reason.
