Thomas Singh April 8, 2020 Share April 8, 2020 (edited) I need to buy an iMac to run DaVinci Resolve from home. What version should I go for? I have the new Mac Pro at my office and understand that there are limitations with the iMac but I don't have clients sitting next to me at home and doesn't need the same performance. What I need though is a Mac with as good performance as possible. I mainly work with footage from the ARRI camera. I also need to know that I can output the montor signal to my external grade monitor. I usually have a Decklink 4K Extreme for this but I guess the iMac doesn't have space for external cards. Thomas Singh April 8, 2020 Author Share April 8, 2020 BTW I'm asking because I don't want to jump on the new 10.000USD iMac, hope I can get things done at home with one of the cheaper ones.
Ryan Moser April 9, 2020 Share April 9, 2020 I run a "top of the line" 2017 27" iMac Retina 5K from my home setup. I've never had any issues and I am currently using it to work from home during the quarantine. Before the quarantine I was working from an office off of an iMac Pro. The iMac Pro did have faster render times than my home setup but other than that it was not mind-blowingly faster.
Thomas Singh April 10, 2020 Author Share April 10, 2020 Great! Do they come with different graphic cards? What's in yours?
Ryan Moser April 10, 2020 Share April 10, 2020 I can't recall what the differences were between models in terms of graphics cards. My computer has an AMD Radeon Pro 580 8GB card installed.
