Lost in colours!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am kind of lost or feel stuck at the moment. I have been learning an immense amount about colour and DaVinci Resolve but I feel like I am unable to achieve the results that I want, I am not sure how to proceed a certain grade, what can I do to improve on this? It has been suggested that photography can help improve the analytical component, but I am unsure. So my problem is, how do I stitch together all the information that I have learnt into a process that helps me achieve any kind of look?

Thanks

In my book, the subject matter drives the look, so in my opinion, it's hard to "achieve a look" when you've got nothing to see!

Short of that, you could acquire a few image sequences and then study a few painters to try to emulate their styles and pallets.

Might I suggest John Singer Sargent, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Diego Rivera and Andrew Wyeth as a random starting point.

It always seems to go back to painting, somehow...

Painterly advice is worthwhile.  Some other names that are more closely associated with an orthodox "Fine Arts" approach are Cezanne, Seurat and delaCroix. They got very analytic with the deployment of pigment and deliberate theories with respect to chromatic contrast and composition.
