Looks like an error you'll get when you choose New Database with the Create option. Make sure you use the Connect option and that you choose the directory by clicking next to Location.

    Hi

I am looking for a Fusion tutor to teach on-line sessions accompanied by tutorials, for the MA cinematography students at the Met Film School during a VFX module, this March. If you are interested, please email with your c.v.

I will send you an email.

After having looked closer to it, it looks like the scaling and crop matches, but that the roto of his hand (the polygon) is twisted. I have wired the polygon directly to the Media in, if that can have something to do with it?

Instead of dropping the original Fusion comp into a new timeline, trying dropping the original timeline (associated with the Fusion comp) into a new timeline. That seems to work for me. The roto comes through fine despite a difference in resolution between the two timelines. You can stack timelines and clips if you need to.

    After watching Lee's tutorial
I am trying to remove a string blowing in the wind (attached to a pole) and the adaptive blend of the Patch Replacer OFX is working great EXCEPT it would be super helpful to be able to rotate the window (either oval or rectangle) Is there anyway to do that? I can't seem to find a way 🙂

When it comes to complex paint fixing, you will probably want to use Fusion. The Patch Repair plug-in is easy to use, but it's very limited with its options. In Fusion, you can use the Paint tool in Clone mode to remove a moving string.

I have the worlds most annoying problem that I hope you can help me with.

I have a HD 1920x1080 timeline with many effects that I have done inside of the Fusion tab in Resolve. Everything works well until I copy the Fusion clips and paste them into timeline with a different aspect ratio such as a square or vertical one. Then all of the sudden, the effects such as a roto of a hand with that is composited on top  of the clip below in the main timeline goes crazy, re-positions, twists and turns in all direction. What is going on here? I have tried to manually just reposition the clips but it's not that simple.

You might try matching the domain in Fusion to the new timeline resolution. You can do this by adding a Resize tool or one of the Domain tools right before MediaOut.

@Lee Lanier Thank you for your prompt answer.

I guess to simplify my question, while you're technically able to edit in AE and approach a lot of sequence composition work as such, does Fusion within Resolve allow you the same thing?

You can combine clips and animate their opacity in Fusion. You can combine clips in pairs with a Merge tool and adjust the FG input's opacity by animating the Blend parameter. However, for general editing, where you arrange, overlap, and add transitions to clips, I would use the Edit tab. Fusion will build a separate comp for each clip within the Edit/Timeline tab.

Hello, I'm in Resolve 16 - in the Fusion tab - and I have one MEDIA IN that I'm applying a Delta Key node to in order to key out a green screen. However I would like to apply another instance of Delta Key in order to grab the edge of the green screen which is a darker value. I can't get rid of it in the first Delta Key node without losing the phone in the hand of the person in the shot. How do I combine these two nodes? I've tried merge but literally nothing happens. Help! Please and thank you!!

    Capture.PNG

You can chain keyers together, where one runs into another - but this can lead to alpha problems. A better solution is to use garbage masks to limit the amount of green screen you have to remove. Is it possible to cut off the dark area of the green screen with mask?

on's workflow is in comparison to After Effects specifically when it comes to multiple clips in form of a timeline?

In AE, when doing a GFX sequence, I would create a composition with x-amount of frames and import my graphics or clips within that composition which basically interacts as a timeline. That way I can transition those graphics easily, manipulate timing, and so on.

In Fusion, it seems way more of a clip by clip approach where you just bring in a clip from your timeline one by one. But what if you have complex GFX sequences in which they build on another? I understand you can add a loader or a 2nd, 3rd, ... media in, but how would you tell Fusion that that loader or that media in should only show up after frame X?

If you are using Resolve, you can arrange  and stack clips on the timeline. Clips can be videos, images or different Fusion comps.

If you are using the standalone version of Fusion, then, yes, it doesn't really have the same flexibility as After Effects in terms of sliding layers back and forth in time. That said, you can change the Loader's In and Out frames, plus add hold frames at the start of end.

I have a scene with an actor taking a photo of an object on a table. I need to add a flash. The shot is top down, so you don't see the actual flash light on the camera. Any suggestions on how to create it in Resolve Fusion?

You can create a very brief change in brightness by animating one of the Color tools, such as the Color Corrector. If you need a dark shadow to be cast at that moment, limit the brightness change with a mask - the unmasked area retains it's original darkness and becomes a shadow. You can use the same trick for lightning.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to build a flicker effect in Fusion. I know there a tool for it but it doesn't behave like I want. (Or I don't know to use it properly)

I want a random change of the exposure or the gamma but between a min and max value I can choose. I want the values to only go lower than the original exposure. (never higher)

Do you know a expression for that?

    How about this:

    :randomseed(time); return random()*(max-min)+min

For example, if you want a random value between 0.8 and 1:

    :randomseed(time); return random()*(1-.8)+.8

I have done a planar track and want to judge the result. The red corner pin lines are distractive, is it possible to turn them off?

You can go to the 3-dot menu at the top-right of the viewer and turn off Show Controls. There are also a few Show Control options through the RMB view menu.

I have done a screen replacement and fed the screen graphics straight into the planar tracker. So, the node three looks has the phone fed into the background of the planar tracker, the graphics fed into the foreground of the planar tracker, and the planar tracker itself is fed into the media out node. With this setup, how can I output ONLY the screen graphic to the color tab? As I see it, the planar tracker works as a "merge" in this case so I don't understand how to output only the graphics.

The Planar Tracker does work like a Merge,  but you can apply the planar deformation with a Planar Transform node separately. Connect the graphic to the Planar Transform, and set the Planar Transform's Track Spline parameter to the planar tracker track. The Planar Tracker can be left as its own branch and does not have to be connected to the MediaOut.

In general, I apply tracking data outside the Tracker or Planar Tracker and do not use those nodes to undertake the actual merge.

That made it, thank you! Another thing, but any effect that can be added to blur the edges of a matte only?

You can force a Blur node to only operate on the alpha channel (turn off the RGB buttons). Add a Color Curves after the Blur, and adjust the Alpha curve and it will erode/dilate the matte edge.

I'm wrapping my head around the corner positioned in Resolve Fusion, but it seems like my issue with making it work is related to different resolutions. My footage is 2K, 4K and the inserts are HD 1920x1080. Do I need to down scale the footage to make the corner positions match?

Mismatching domains cause problems when applying the Corner Positioner. One trick is to scale the inserts to the project resolution before connecting them to the Corner Positioner.

  15. Connecting the mask to the Effect Mask input of the MediaIn node gives me the behavior I would expect: both the mask and the footage are scaled down by the Transform node. However, there is some weirdness connecting a mask to the Effect Mask input of Transform node - the mask seems to use the un-transformed version and you get a weird amalgam output.

A workaround would be to leave the mask connected to MediaIn or to use it further downstream. For example, add a Merge. Connect the Transform to the Merge FG input, the mask to the Merge Effect Mask input, and a Background solid color (with Alpha set to 0) to the Merge BG input.

How do I remove or delete key frames of my moving shapes in DaVinci Resolve Fusion? I know I can delete keyframes by right-clicking on the parameters on regular effects but it doesn't look like it works the same way on shapes.

Mask shapes? You can do the same. If a node has parameter animation, you can also add and delete keyframes in  the Spline or Keyframes panels.

    Something else:
Is there a way to use a Planar Tracker to animate a Paint layer? I manage to do it with Polygon Masks. For now I use manual animation but it's never perfect.

Theoretically, that should work. The Planar Transform tool works best if the input resolution is the same as the project resolution (at least it's easier to set up that way).

Basically I have 2 things I want to combine: The "Blur1" (various beauty fixes) and "MergeEyes" (brighten eyes) into a "MergeFinalComp". Whatever I seem to do, the "MergeFinalComp" shows me either one but not both at the same time.

When it comes to Merges, the FG input always wins, unless there is a mask connected to the Merge Effect Mask input, or the Merge Apply Mode is set to something like Screen, or the Merge Blend slider is dropped below 1.0.
