    Thanks Lee,

Yes I had clicked the Update LUTs button before and it didn't work for the original DCTL in the downloads folder.

But used the DCTL text on the GIThub page as a new DCTL file as you mentioned and it shows/works on the LUT lists now.
Thanks but just thought I'd mention in case the original DCTL in the downloads file might have similar issues for others :)

    Good to know. Thanks.

Would there be any reason the DCTL file doesn't show in the LUT folder after importing and updating the LUT list? Have restarted and also updated to the latest version (17.3) but no luck. DCTL OFX node also shows empty.

Unfortunately not sure what to do with the DCTL code on the github link.

As soon as you click the Update LUTs button, the Resolve LUT menus are updated. DCTLs are text files, so you could cut and paste the DCTL text on the GitHub page into a new file using a program such as Windows Notepad. Just make sure the extension is .dctl when you save out.

    Great!
What is your workflow if you have 2  or more type of Raw files in timeline?

For ex Braw, R3D and Arri Raw.

One option is to move all the clips into a single camera color space and use that camera color space for the timeline color space.  For example, use  DCTL to transform one camera color space to another. Another option would be to  work in RCM Extra Wide Gamut, which has a larger gamut then any particular camera color space.

thanks for this amazing course! 🤓Does anybody have suggestions where to find more courses about Tone Mapping methods and SDR > HDR conversion?

Thanks. I'm actually recording a new version of this course, which should be available sometime in the relative near future. There will be additional information on mixing SDR with HDR and tone mapping.

Cool tutorial! How can I do a set extension in Resolve?

That depends on the shot, but for a 2D extension you would probably need to create a larger domain for the extended set with a tool like Crop, motion track the extension art with the Tracker, and then re-crop the final result to the final render size.

    Hi Lee,

Sure, I just wanted to provide some hopefully constructive feedback, maybe someone can pick up a useful nugget of information :) But I’d still suggest to use common Nuke node layout of down and right instead of right and up, makes comps much easier to read for any Nuke artist.

My node network directionality is an ingrained habit built over many years. I will keep the suggestion in mind for the next course, or at least mention it as a common approach.

If you want to adjust tracker, you don't need to set keyframes on first frame if you already successfully tracked part of shot. Find the last good frame, delete forward (or backward if doing reverse) track that is off, adjust pattern or search region and track on from that point. There are buttons in tracker ui for both deleting part of track forward or backward from current frame and for removing keyframes. Tracker falls off for two reasons only: searchable pattern is outside of search region or it doesn't find match below error threshold (which is in the end the reason in first case too). If you delete forward track that is off and step to next frame, you see how far the pattern jumps. This gives an idea of necessary search region size. Capturing new pattern is necessary when match error goes above set threshold, usually due to pattern change from perspective etc or due to lighting changes. Changing pattern on first frame and retracking from start when tracker slips at frame 200 or something is kind of useless, because what you actually want is to capture is new pattern, not just different crop of old one.

    Thanks for your input.

I'll admit I can be unorthodox in my technique and a little obtuse with my explanations, but I firmly believe there are multiple approaches to every VFX problem. I would encourage all VFX artists to stay flexible, seek out information from multiple sources, and follow the standards set by the particular studio, project, or supervisor you working for.

    Great stuff.....thank you!

In this scenerio (L14 projecting matte paintings) though,

it would be easier inside fusion, to create a simple 3D shape, scale it up and resize the y-axis...

if you place the projector and the camera inside the shape you can simply use a bender node to  transform the shape to

    it´s final state....528130344_Screenshot2021-01-12at21_34_20.thumb.png.76ba5a65d57ca80a681a4232d9d3692e.png

sorry for the nerdy comment 😉

eager to see more of your tutorials, really!!!

Good suggestion. I did want to demonstrate mesh importation, but there is a lot you can do with primitives.

Thanks Lee.  Turns out it's not really necessary.  I can just edit with the 2D image, then do all the stereo work in the color page.  Thanks so much for all your help.  Enormously helpful.  Resolve has really great stereo tools, but the manual is not very good at explaining workflow.  So thank you again!!!!  John

    Glad you worked it out.

Hi Lee.   Another stereo question.   I just managed to hook up an external 3D monitor (Marshall 3D).  It will accept a L-R input over a single SDI.  When I am on the color page this works, since I can select Side by Side under "out" in the 3D tab.  However when I go to the edit page the signal changes to some kind of interlaced format.  I cannot find anywhere in preferences where I can change this.    Is it possible to set the monitor output to side by side from the edit page, or am I only able to have that in the color page.   Thanks in advance for your time!   Great class BTW!

That, I do not know as I spend little time in the Edit tab. I'm afraid I would have to spend some time trying to figure that out myself...

    Hi Lee,

So I came up with a solution that worked.  I put the left and right eye together in the same timeline, one above the other, selected them both, then right clicked and made a new fusion clip.  That gave me two Media In nodes that did function and then followed your lesson on using Stereo Align.  However I now have another question.  The end of the lesson does not explain how to render back out of fusion.  I assume that fusion cannot create a stereo clip back in the timeline.  So I would have to render out each corrected eye from Fusion.  But I'm not sure how to do that.  I imagine that I would replace the anaglyph node with something else, then hook up to MediaOut.  Please advise....

Lesson 5 shows how to combine the stereo images to make a top/bottom or side-by-side combination, which you can then pass through a single MediaOut tool (useful for VR applications). If you need to render the left and right separately, then, yes, you would have to render them individually or pass them through two MediaOuts (you can have more than one).

    Hi Lee,

I've been trying to follow along with your stereo fusion sessions.  I'm having trouble importing my own footage instead of the png image sequences you use.  I have stereo left and right video in apple pro res QT movies.  I created a timeline using my left eye footage.  Then open the fusion tab, so I have a Media In node and a Media Out node.   Then  I create a new loader, select my file, and click "open" but nothing happens.   I get a new loader, but it is still just called "loader1".  I then tried using the inspector for that loader to select my file by clicking "browse".   That opens the same finder window.   I select my same file and click "open".  Now the loader has the file name on it in white.   But when I try to view the contents of the loader by clicking the view dot below, the file name turns red and the viewer is blank.  Frustrating.  I assumed importing a QT file would be the same process as importing an image sequence but I can't get it to work.   Using Studio 17.1 on Mac OS.....  Thanks for your time!  John.

Theoretically, it should be the same exact process for any supported format. Sounds like it's having trouble reading your files. Can you test some other footage - other QuickTimes? I use a PC to run Resolve, so I'm not sure if there are any Mac issues.

Thanks for a very clear first lesson!  Much clearer than the manual documentation.   One question:  I am working with footage shot on a beam splitter rig.  Timecode does not match left and right.  However a slate with a synch clap was used and both clips have audio.  What would the workflow be to synch these up as a stereo clip?  Resolve has many synch options for making Multicam clips like using audio waveform and markers instead of timecode, but the stereo synch does not offer these.   What do you suggest?   Thanks!!!!

The only thing I can think of is syncing the audio outside of Fusion or through a set-up project for re-rendering.

    Hi,

    Thanks one question.

If I want to work in rec709/2.4 for tv but to match the logarithmic hero camera (the log space I'm working on)

    How would you setup that?

If you use RCM, make sure the Input Color Space is is set to your camera log space. Set the Output color space to Rec. 709. Then, it's up to you if you want to have the Timeline color space (the space your grade  in) set to your camera space or Rec. 709. Lesson 7 will walk you through RCM.

Is there any way to download old project files from DR15 or 16?  When i'm trying to import them an error appears that says that i'm unable to import project from newer version.

I'm still using 16 version since i've got some unfinished projects and don't want to update yet.

We are in the process of re-uploading the old project files, so stay tuned.

Hi. by your experience cleanup and roto is better to use in After effects or in Fusion?   I like after effects for motion and cleanup but wondering if i should give a try to fusion?

I find Fusion a little awkward for extensive rotoscoping,, but the built-in tracking features can help make it easier.  It would be worth checking out my advanced Fusion rotoscoping course at Lowepost. I use After Effects quite often because it's very simple and straightforward, plus the Mocha  tracker is excellent.

Hey Lee! I joined Lowepost mainly for this course in particular and it is fantastic. I am having one issue that has me stuck and I believe I have followed every step needed. On the Planar tracker, I have created a Fusion Comp with the main footage and a PNG image with a transparent background. The tracker seems to track the PNG image pretty well but about halfway through the clip the PNG image suddenly disappears. I can't for the life of me figure out why this keeps happening. Any advice on a setting or what I may be doing wrong? Thank you so much, Bryan

Hmm, I vaguely remember an issue like this awhile back. I would try to purge the cache and restart and possibly reboot . If that doesn't work, maybe run a test by converting the sequence to a different image format. Assuming that the sequence is visible when working with other nodes, a setting shouldn't cause that to happen.

Lee, what type of workflow do you recommend?

Im often work with Arri & Blackmagic Cameras.

    //Jesper

ACES offers a simplified workflow. RCM gives you a bit more control by allowing you to apply the camera LUTs. I would test both ACES and RCM and see which one suits your footage the best. There are so many permutations with color management, it is hard to predict which one might give you the best result.
