The Ward was unusual for me because I was actually somewhat involved fairly early in the process. Due to scheduling, I did the DI on "The Joneses" for the same producers with the same DP Yaron Orbach (Amber Heard was also in both films) during The Ward’s prep. Yaron and I had a couple of conversations about The Ward because I would be supervising the dailies.

Director John Carpenter’s vision was pretty straight forward for a horror film; dark and contrasty but with a natural feeling. Stay away from a digitally manipulated look was his main note. Since the goal was to avoid forcing a digital “look” on the film, most of what I did was to enhance what was done on set in subtle ways.
