  1. I have this strange audio conform issue when going from Avid to Resolve with an AAF. Resolve reads in the wrong audio clip.
The audio on the Resolve timeline gets this ".new" extention behind each clip name, but the ".new" is not there in Avid and it's not there if I click "find clip in media tool" in Resolve.  The way I bring the AAF in is by first loading the footage and then linking to the source while importing. The same happens if I choose not to link. Any suggestions very much appreciated.

  2. Strangely I read the two shots different and think the last shot is the most natural one. The first shot has quite infected blacks, less natural skin tones and greens that can't be found in real nature. If you want shots from different locations and light to match, it could be an idea to determine some factors that should be the same between shots, e.g that blacks should be black.

  3. You need to be more specific in what you want to do before asking people here in the forums. If you want to even out the colors to get a flat more even look you can try to bring the hues closer together. It's a good lesson on exactly that on the professional color grading course here on Lowepost. For specific skin work, removing blemishes and imperfections, that's typical tasks that can be resolved inside of Fusion and I suggest the Beauty Retouching in DaVinci Resolve Fusion training for that.

  4. Hopefully, Resolves rotobrush improves over time but considering how poor the auto-roto solution in After Effects is after all these years I have no big hopes. Anyway, for now, see how much you can get away with using the luma keyers and then pick up the rest with manual roto.

  5. To be honest, I'm s bit disappointed. It might seem like a unthankful comment, but do we really need the hundreds of things they just added? A few things maybe.

What I would like to see is simple compositing tools in the editing module, in+out rendering in addition to the unreliable smart cache, better sub cap tools, a Fusion that doesn't crash every minute, editing tools that editors from the other big NLEs are used too and so on.

  6. Hi Cole. I would say, start with the professional color grading course as it will take you through the most important steps. Then I would dive into the masterclasses and read the color grading case studies in the insider section of the site. When you are ready for it watch the color management workflow course. I also find the conforming course very useful and tend to go back and watch parts of it when I'm stuck with I/O issues.

  7. Lately I have been editing in Resolve. It's quite a transition from Avid, but I'm starting to like it, and I save so much time with everything around such as the conform tools, audio syncing, rendering and so on.

I have one newbie questions though. In Avid I have a button at the bottom of the timeline that lets me switch the timeline between the player and source. How do I do that in the edit module of Resolve? It's very useful when editing source audio.

  8. That could be a workaround, the problem is that the original timeline contains so many unwanted elements such as subtitles. I applied a resize (stretching it back to 1920x1080) after the polygon (and prior to the media1)  and that seems to work in this case.

I have done some more testing with copy/pasting fusion comps to different timelines with different aspect ratios, and it seems that if I copy the original fusion comp and paste it into a new 1:1 resolution timeline, it will crop everything outside of the square and it seems impossible to retrieve the lost pixels.

The trick with applying a resize prior to the media1 doesn't work in this case, in the example above it only stretched out the polygon shape to the original format (1920x1080) it was made in.

  9. Sometimes it's not possible to "mark in" or "mark out" or move the markers (in/out-points) in the delivery tab. Probably a bug, but it's been a around for a while? Any workaround?
I have also noticed that if I choose the default "protools" option the in-point automatically sets itself to the first frame of the timeline, and it's not possible to move it.

  10. I have the worlds most annoying problem that I hope you can help me with.

I have a HD 1920x1080 timeline with many effects that I have done inside of the Fusion tab in Resolve. Everything works well until I copy the Fusion clips and paste them into timeline with a different aspect ratio such as a square or vertical one. Then all of the sudden, the effects such as a roto of a hand with that is composited on top  of the clip below in the main timeline goes crazy, re-positions, twists and turns in all direction. What is going on here? I have tried to manually just reposition the clips but it's not that simple.
